Inspiration Station: Fairytales

February 9, 2010 at 5:19 pm (Inspiration Station)

Almost everyone grew up with fairytales being read to them by their parents, grandparents, relatives or friends. The stories are told over and over again, leaving imprints on our minds. But what is the impact that these tales have on our lives when we get older?

There are multiple articles and discussions on the effects the depictions of princesses and relationships in fairytales have on young women. For example, women and their search for Prince Charming. Personally, I’m not sure that we can solely blame children’s stories for the female expectation that she will find Mr Right. Television, novels and films all (at one time or another) have portrayed the perfect relationship in some form or another – but isn’t it nice to have something delightful, simple (and with a happy ending) to dream about and be inspired by?

Here is some lovely imagery in the fairytale style to inspire you on this magical Tuesday.

I couldn’t help but add this cheeky one at the end – Snow White as a little less than a perfect princess

What’s your favourite fairytale and why?

Great photographs! I would have to say that Rumplestiltzkin is my favorite.
The reason I suppose is my obsession with history and mythology and this fairytale is based on some very ancient stories. That and it’s a good old fashioned rags to riches princess story with a twist!
