3.30pm Wednesday afternoon.
There wasn’t really anything special about the time or the day, but the place and the experience – now that was special.
Green tea in hand, I wandered across the road from our apartment to the beach. My boyfriend found this beautiful, lush clearing a few weeks ago and I decided that I was going to sit in the sun, switch off, drink my tea and just BE.
I was the only person there. I sat on the top of a little hill and closed my eyes, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the fresh air. I’m not all that great at meditation, but if you don’t keep trying you won’t get any better, right? So I tried to focus on my breath and clear my mind.
Walking along the beach itself, I couldn’t wipe the slight smile off my face. I passed mothers playing with their children, older couples holding hands, runners and families. Nobody seemed to realise just how much beauty was around them. Until I caught one woman’s eye and the corners of her mouth turned up into a small knowing smile. She knew.
Do you have a favourite place to just BE?
