A Week o’ Love

July 24, 2011 at 6:53 pm (Cyberspace Gems, Sweet Nothings/Ramblings)

It’s Sunday again! I have had a fairly laid back weekend which has been great (they’re rare these days). Here’s the Week o’ Love post with a few things that I have loved doing, seeing, reading and lusting after in the last little while. Let me know what you’ve been loving – comment below!

Credit card elimination. The day finally came on Thursday. It was at ZERO! A more joyous day than my birthday and Christmas combined.

Hitting the 10kg milestone. I can’t believe I used to carry that much extra weight. Feels absolutely amazing.

Finding THE perfect Parisian apartment. See Places.

Little extras: Making hundreds of lists and ticking things off, helping friends and posting them “just because” gifts, reading in the sun, dancing to the Beatles, dry shampoo, Max Brenner hot chocolates, romantic dinners, cabaret festival shows, fudge (need I say more) and new clients.

This Parisian Apartment. I was barely able to sleep after I found this apartment in Paris’ St Germain. T asked me not to get my hopes up, it might not be available (despite me enquiring 11 months in advance). But it is! We are planning our “last hurrah” trip (before we start knuckling down and saving like adults for apartments of our own and “rainy days”) for next year. We’ll be travelling around Northern Europe, returning to Paris for its music festival Fête de la Musique and Bastille Day, using the apartment as a home away from home over the 7 weeks. It’s described as an artist’s loft and I am officially in love.

CYBERSPACE GEMS (mostly about food)

What Katie Ate serves up some amazing birthday recipes. I am drooling over the Chocolate Truffle Tarts.

Jess from The Belle Lumiere reviews one of her Holy Grail beauty products, Ultraceuticals Even Skintone Serum.

Over at The Happiness Cocktail (one of my fave blogs ever), Yaz has given us the recipe for a seriously tasty chia seed parfait.

10 Ways To Find That Grown Up Feeling is a guest post by Ashe over at Yes and Yes.

Carly shares her chicken and lentil stew secrets at Smaggle.

On The Freedom Experiment, Marthe is talking about over-estimating your obstacles and under-estimating you.

Merowyn adds a delish berry smoothie to Blithely Unaware (and love her crazy drawings).

Life is about creating yourself – Sandi reminds us over at In The Thick Of It.

An all Australian cast today in Style and Beauty. Clockwise from left:

♥  Autumn Leaves earrings by birdofplay (on madeit.com.au)

♥  A’kin Pure Radiance Rosehip Oil

A Week o’ Love

July 1, 2011 at 6:23 pm (Cyberspace Gems, Things I Love)

Welcome to another Friday – here’s another cocktail of things, places, blog posts, style and beauty products that I’ve been lusting over or inspired by recently. TGIF!

Amazing Face. Zoe Foster’s latest foray into the writing world is this freakin’ incredible beauty book. I devoured it within a few hours of purchasing it and now have a list of ‘to buy’ products as long as my arm, but it has reinvigorated my love of skincare and cosmetics.

Fishtail braids. I have become obsessed with messy fishtail braids (see top right). Something a little different to the common plait.

Date nights. T and I have been getting out a bit more recently and enjoying the Melbourne nightlife: cabaret performances, the circus, fancy dinner dates and the movies. It’s worth spending a little money on quality time.  : )

Little extras: Bircher muesli, my tweet on happiness being published in the latest issue of Madison mag, using hurt for good (song writing in my case), getting back into my healthy eating groove, party planning, days with sunshine and a temperature over 15 degrees celsius, long Skype chats with my parents, researching our next European adventure and fun new students.

Cafe Gaia. This cafe is always packed when I arrive and I can see why. The coffee is good and this apple + rhubarb crumble is frickin’ incredible (sorry for the blurry iPhone pic).

San Churro Chocolateria. T and I went out to the circus and I decided we needed something sweet and warm. Enter San Churro Light Hot Choc. Mmmmm… Delicious (not so nutritious). The churros themselves are also fantastic.

Chantelle from fat mum slim teaches us how to make a cake in a jar. Two parts yum, one part awesome.

Over at The Happiness Cocktail, Yaz is enjoying switching off her laptop and switching on her ‘real’ life.

Life feeling out of control crazy? Check out Samantha’s post for Balance in Me on surviving the busyness epidemic.

Marthe discusses sharing your dreams on her fabulous blog The Freedom Experiment.

Jo Foster asks ‘Are you really you?’

This post on how to be happy is really interesting, care of MINDFOOD.

These patterned footless tights from Tightology would add some interest to an otherwise dull winter outfit

The Dreamer t-shirt is not only gorgeous and inspiring but is also made from organic cotton (bonus!) by lovely Brisbane Etsy seller milatree (bonus!)

I am still lusting over handbags, this time it’s the Splash Knot handbag by Melbourne designer Sarah Conners.

A bunch of goodies available from Mecca Cosmetica: Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Serum, NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Carthage, Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector and Smashbox Photo Finish Colour Foundation Primer.

A Week o’ Love

June 5, 2011 at 7:35 pm (Cyberspace Gems, Sweet Nothings/Ramblings)

It seems that yet another weekend has crept up on us! The Week o’ Love posts capture things that I have loved doing, seeing, reading and lusting after in the last little while. I hope they make you smile and think about what has made your week special. Let me know, comment below!

Reading. Oh my God how I have missed reading. I didn’t realise it until I became totally engrossed in a book this week (for the online book club I have joined). As a child I used to spend whole weekends in bed reading, devouring the pages but now I don’t seem to indulge in that pleasure anymore. Adding it to my to do list every week.  Très awesome.
The book was Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson for those interested.

Being my own finance fairy. While I can’t say I’m in love with reviewing budgets and doing my taxes, I can say that I love knowing what I have to do to be in control of my finances. It is a little sad knowing that I won’t be able to splurge on a new wardrobe any time soon, but paying off my credit card, the tax man and saving for our Bali trip will have to do!

Little extras: A 17 degree day in winter (practically unheard of in Melbourne), killing it at a tough workout, vintage musicals (especially ones that contain amazing tap dancing scenes), lovely students that are making progress, learning fashion illustration from scratch (wish me luck), sorting out the best birthday present ever for my boyfriend, clearing writer’s block, beach walks and delicious muesli.

Chez Dré. I hadn’t been able to find the perfect macaron since Ladurée in Paris until now. Chez Dré is a gorgeous little patisserie/boulangerie in South Melbourne which does fantastic food and a good cuppa (always important).

Sarah Wilson tells us the scary truth behind our cosmetics.

Alexandra from The Art of Afternoon Tea shares a great Cinnamon Doughnut recipe (check out her cute food illustrations while you’re there).

Look at these gorgeous bow ties that Tania over at Fashionising found. French of course.

Sarah from Yes and Yes fame has a great guest post called Hobby to Job: Business Advice for Non-Business Types. Creatives, check this out.

Zen Habits explains The Really Simple Way to Get Work Done.

And introducing a cute little blog called loving at the moment …, penned by Jessica. Very sweet.

♥  I still do not own a proper handbag (I know, what kind of a woman am I?), but one that has seriously tickled my fancy is Mimco’s Orbit Day Bag. It’s on sale if anyone would like to purchase said bag as an I love you gift. *wink*

♥  How gorgeous are these coasters by Anna Pernilla?

♥  I am convinced that I am in dire need of a fuschia lipstick and Funny Face by NARS may be just the one.

A Week o’ Love

May 13, 2011 at 1:02 pm (Cyberspace Gems, Sweet Nothings/Ramblings)

Hello again Friday – you have certainly been missed!

Here’s what have been the highlights of the past couple of weeks, served piping hot and easy to digest. Hope you have an amazing weekend planned either with your loved ones or rocking out on your own.

Girly weekend get togethers. My gorgeous friend Sarah organised a beauty workshop and afternoon tea last weekend. It was so nice to chill out, play with mineral make up and chat instead of working for once.

Community. I recently discovered this TV show (yes I am slow at hopping on the bandwagon) but had it recommended by several friends. Love it. Especially in bed when it is freezing outside (read: every day this week).

Finding motivation even in bad situations. I seem to be getting better at this. Realising that even though it is a less than perfect situation to be in, it can always lead to something positive. Getting charged interest on my credit card for the first time in years – motivation to finally list all my excess possessions on eBay.

Little extras: losing 8.5 kilograms and getting new jeans 2 sizes smaller (!), getting my yoga on, staying in bed all morning, getting the apartment organised, baking my Nanna’s famous apple crumble, gloves, my “find the best porridge in my area” mission and hot green tea.

Burch & Purchese. Because T and I have been eating so well and exercising like little gym bunnies, we have allowed ourselves a couple of extra special treats recently. When I walked into Burch & Purchese Sweet Studio my eyes bulged and my mouth watered. They have the most amazing little decadent creations – check them out on the right! Each dessert has a number of interesting layers that combine to create a party in your mouth sensation. Believe me.

LuxBite. I love macarons – who doesn’t? I also love cakes. LuxBite is a beautiful little cafe which specialises in sweet treats. Look at the stunning afternoon tea we had a few weeks ago (left). They also have amazing tea which goes brilliantly with a macaron or three.

The Happiness Cocktail (post: Follow Your Dreams Not The Dollar Signs) and Yes and Yes (post: How to become a Grown Up Part 1) have touched on the common Career Crisis – something I have thought a lot about and had even started a post on (they beat me to it). :)

Gala Darling has put together her Adventurous Summer To Do List.

Whereas Marthe from The Freedom Experiment tells you to Replace your To-do List (with crazy and liberating things instead).

The lovely Tresna booked a flight to Paris but didn’t take it. Her letter Dear Flight D7 2014 explains why.

Beautiful truths from Sandi at In The Thick Of It. Read it twice.

Sarah Wilson inspired me with her column How to have a better Morning Routine. I’ve been experimenting with my routine ever since. Blog post to come.

WALL ART. Our music room is in dire need of this Sound of Music lyrics framed poster. How cute is it? I’ve always loved the Sound of Music AND the Queen herself Julie Andrews. Poster by Kru Books on Etsy.

KEVIN.MURPHY. I was lucky enough to try  couple of samples of KEVIN.MURPHY hair products a couple of months ago and now that we’re into winter and my hair is crying out for some moisture treatment, I can’t wait to grab the BORN.AGAIN treatment —>.

Lululemon Athletica. Embarrassingly, when I was cleaning out my wardrobe this morning I realised that I may be close to having more workout gear than normal everyday clothing. This situation would be much worse if I had given in to all the temptation over at Lululemon.

Just look at how amazingly soft this cashmere Mudra Wrap looks? My freezing hands could do with those mitten sleeves!!

(Sorry for the grey theme in Style and Beauty, the winter weather must be influencing me!)

Cyberspace Gems

July 5, 2010 at 6:32 pm (Cyberspace Gems)

Welcome to a new week everyone! I’m not usually that excited and positive on a Monday, but why not start the week with a smile? Before we get into the handpicked gems dotted around the web, here’s a quick peek into my world in the past week…

MADE:   Not much (oh the shame). I guess I virtually made the Muesli o’ Love and Strength that I ordered…

WENT:   To breakfast at Batch Expresso. This is a cafe a few minutes from our house which is New Zealand themed. I was loving the wooden buzzy bee toys, NZ beers and Maori figures on display. Ahhh, looked like home.

GOT:    A handbag and two singlets. That concludes my necessary purchases for my trip. Very exciting – almost 7 weeks away now!

DID:   Win a prize on the radio. I know, I couldn’t believe it either! I haven’t called into a radio competition since I was in my early teens because you can never get through! But at 5.45am on the way to my gym session, I answered the quiz questions and won a gym gift voucher! Figures.  : )

BEEN:   Feeling nostalgic. I am in the middle of writing a post on this feeling and my attitudes towards it. My weekend was full of it.

SAW:   Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 1. I was a big Buffy fan back in the day. Who doesn’t love a kick ass girl power figure? I’m just starting to make my way through the series again and loving it.

Here are some posts that have made me think, laugh or nod enthusiastically in agreement. Enjoy!

Welcome, my delightful readers (and a quick thank you for checking in)!

I thought I’d start this Cyberspace Gems edition with an update on what I’ve been up to (in case you’re interested, if not, feel free to scroll down to the luscious links)!

MADE:   Not a lot really. I need to get a tad more crafty. I did make an effort to start using my Fashionary. I added 3 sketches and then decided I needed coloured pencils to really let my creativity go wild.

WENT:  Cecylia’s Blogger Party. Cupcakes and champagne did nothing for my new healthy lifestyle, but it was lovely to indulge, scan the racks of beautiful (national and international) designer clothing and meet fantastic new people (including Cecylia herself). I also won a prize after completing a fashion quiz – woohoo!
If you live in Melbourne, check out her sweet boutique at 1113 High Street, Armadale.

DID:   Book into a photography course. If all goes to plan, I should be starting my 2 day course on Sunday 30 May. Thrilled that I’ll be able to structure my photos a lot better and learn new tricks with my camera.

BEEN:   Practising for T’s gig tonight. I’m singing on a number of the tracks he’ll be performing – a little nervous, but more excited for him.

SAW:   The final episode of Supernatural Season 5. I cried. I know, I’m a sook. I’m going to blame the red wine…

And what you’ve all come here to see…
