Longing to be inspired

August 18, 2009 at 1:49 pm (Sweet Nothings/Ramblings)

There is one reason that I buy magazines and that is to be inspired. I buy Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Instyle etc to be inspired by glamourous fashion that I could never afford. I buy Russh and Frankie to be inspired by quirky design, people and products. I buy Mindfood and Yen to be inspired by great people doing great things. But why can’t one magazine have the perfect blend of all these elements?

I love magazine spreads that have been pain-stakingly put together with so much thought and care that it transports you away from your desk and inspires you to get up and make or do something truly special. In my opinion, magazines are focusing too much on selling and product placement and not enough on inspiring the women that purchase their magazine.

I tend to get a lot more inspiration from blogs online than I do from the glossy magazines. I think my expensive magazine habit may be coming to an end. INSPIRE ME GLOSSIES! xx

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR YOURSELF RECENTLY?

I am the Queen of doing too much. I have two jobs, work seven days a week (except for last week – BLISS!) and run Escapade. On my day off on Saturday (the first in 5 weeks) I didn’t know what to do with myself! I came to realisation that I have forgotten how to relax.

I don’t own a TV (a fact that my little sister claims is “lame) and don’t tend to calm myself down before I go to sleep (hence the dreams where I am one of the X-Men – very traumatic). These days people cram as much as they can into 24 hours and don’t take care of themselves. How many of us get sick more often every winter? Cut down on exercise because we simply “do not have time”? I am guilty and I am sure a lot of us are.

So, what have you done for yourself lately? It doesn’t have to take a serious chunk of your day. It could just be a 20 minute bath with your favourite flavoured bath bombs and re-painting your toenails a bright shade. It could be watching a movie in your pajamas with a bowl of popcorn. It could be going to a yoga or pilates class.

Try it – every day this week, take time out to take a break and do something for YOU.
